To the people and friends out there who are interested in making artwork such a poster art, cover art, tshirt design, and logos..,
Hello!
Well, because there’re some questions that frequently asked to me plus I
also have some personal reasons behind this, so I decided to write this down.
Here’s my frequently asked questions article, including stuff related to
how I work.
Please read carefully and if you have any further question or maybe
wanna have a discussion, feel free to contact me!
Thank you!
Q: How much
does it costs per artwork?
A: Well, it
depends on what kind of artwork do you need. Feel free to email me at vrugarthdoom@gmail.com
I’ll give you
the details. J
Q: How long
does it takes to make an artwork?
A: Basically,
it depends on the concept/complexity of the artwork and how crowded my schedule
at the moment. So if you’re asking for a commission work with a specific
concept and that concept is complicated, of course that will take longer to
finish.
Q: If I
commission an artwork, can I get the original artwork too?
A: It depends
on what kind of artwork you commissioned me for. In example, if you’re asking
me to make a design, then you’ll only
get the design (only the soft copy, without the original artwork, of course).
But if you’re asking for a design plus
the original art, then you’ll get both (with a different price, of course. We
can always discuss about this). Please be specific in what you need right from
the start.
Q: How about
licenses/copyrights?
A: Well, maybe
I have a bit differences in this licensing stuff than the usual out there. I
don’t know how to call it, but this is how it works:
ê
For designs/illustrations:
Most commonly, I give you full permission
to print them as many as you like, sell them as many as you like, without any
time limits, depends on the result of the discussion between me and the client
before the project starts. I don’t sell the same design/illustration to any
other clients, in other words: one
design/illustration is for one
client.
But I will still own the
artwork as the artist and of course I can share the design/illustration as part
of my portfolio. I will also still be able to sell the original artwork and
maybe print them as poster or use it on other media as my own personal
merchandise and stuff.
Still for
designs/illustrations, in some particular cases, there are two other rare
conditions:
ê
Some clients may asks for full exclusive license, which means they buy every aspects of the
design/illustration. In this condition, I will even also send you the original
artwork.
I will only own the credit
as the artist and still be able to share the design/illustration as as part of my
portfolio, period. I won’t be able to sell the original or use them as my own
personal merchandise and stuff. In this case, the price of the
design/illustration may increase a couple of times. J
ê
Some clients may offer royalty based payment, which means I get paid after they sell some
number of prints (can be tshirts, poster, etc). I’m not really interested in
this kind of method, and I don’t take many of this kind of project, but sometimes,
yes, depends on what they have to offer.
A little bit of
explanation, just like the common
designs/illustration commission work: I will still own the artwork as the
artist and of course I can share the design/illustration as part of my
portfolio. I will also still be able to sell the original artwork and maybe
print them as poster or use it on other media as my own personal merchandise
and stuff.
ê
For original
artworks:
It’s pretty simple, either
you commission me to make a new original artwork or buy from my stock, the
rules are the same: you can buy the original artwork as collections but you
can’t reproduce it as designs and then sell it afterwards. If you want to have
both the design and the original, I suggest you to choose the full exclusive
license, I’ll do my best to provide you the best quality of both design and the
original. Or you can just contact me if you have any specific request and we’ll
work from there. J
Well I guess
that’s all for this license section, you can always choose which one that suits
you the best, but what’s mostly used in the past is the first one (especially
for design/illustration projects).
Yeah, that’s
it, but if you have any other mind, just let me know. I’m open for further
discussion. J
Q: What I
don’t draw and what I do draw?
A: This may
looks simple, but this is what’s most important for me now and forward.
ê
Don’t’s:
ê
Heathen, polytheism, any kind of cult/occultism, related
things.
ê
Eyes/complete faces.
ê
Fantasy creatures.
ê Nudity, pornography
ê
Tattoos, liquor/alcohol, etc.
ê
Living things in their whole picture (can only draw some
parts of them, not the whole figure, or separated parts of them).
ê
Do’s:
ê
Living things drawn in parts/separated parts and without
eyes/complete faces.
ê
Skulls.
ê
Houses/buildings.
ê
Landscapes.
ê
Other lifeless objects.
thanks
take care and have a nice day!
